A Saturday Quote.

Yesterday I received my March/April Writer's Digest, you would have thought I was a kid on Christmas morning. Reading through I found a quote that I fell in love with. (Pg 23 by Steven James)

"Believe it or not, you don't want readers to admire your writing: You want them to be so engaged in the story itself that they don't notice the way you use words to shape it."

And because I'm in the mood for some pretty:

    1. I immediately thought of Twilight. So many people criticize the writing but the people that love the books love them for the story. Not to say it's okay to write poorly because we both know that's not the case either :)

  2. Wow, that is a great quote.

I think that 'normal' readers, aka not writers, this is the case.

But I find that no matter how engaged in a story I am I still stop to admire the writing. Because, lets face it, I'm still trying to grow as a writer and I know I can learn something from every book I read.

  3. Very true. I do notice the writing though and if the writing is beautiful, as well as the story-telling than I'm amazed. But, if the writing is beautiful and the story stinks, I won't keep reading based on the lovely use of words. :)

  5. That's a wonderful quote! And I totally agree! I love when I forget I'm reading a book because I'm so immersed in the writing!
