Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick

I have finally finished reading CRESCENDO by Becca Fitzpatrick. I only started reading it in October or at least the first 88 pages. I couldn't wait for the release and even bought it on its actual release date, but for some reason I couldn't get into it. Most likely because let's face it I was angel/vampire/werewolfed out period. Also it didn't help that my mom told me it ended on a cliffhanger. So finally after reading tens of contemporary and romances and waiting closer to the release of SILENCE I decided to pick back up where I left off. A quick overview of the story from Becca Fitzpatrick's website:

Nora should have known her life was far from perfect. Despite starting a relationship with her guardian angel, Patch (who, title aside, can be described as anything but angelic), and surviving an attempt on her life, things are not looking up. Patch is starting to pull away and Nora can't figure out if it's for her best interest or if his interest has shifted to her arch-enemy, Marcie Millar. Not to mention that Nora is haunted by images of her father and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to him that night he left for Portland and never came home.

The further Nora delves into the mystery of her father's death, the more she comes to question if her Nephilim bloodline has something to do with it as well as why she seems to be in danger more than the average girl. Since Patch isn't answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has a guardian angel puts Nora at risk again and again. But can she really count on Patch or is he hiding secrets darker than she can even imagine?

Okay now that that is out of the way my thoughts. In HUSH HUSH I fell in love with Patch. He was dark, mysterious and I liked everything about him. Now in CRESCENDO I still liked him I just wish there was more of him. I kept flipping ahead to pages to see how long I would have to wait until Patch came back. Don't get me wrong I like Nora and even more I like Vee, but there is something about Patch that just makes the connection for me and without him I was at times forcing myself to continue reading.

What I loved was the twist at the end because honestly I was not expecting that at all, though, I was thrilled because it proved what I knew deep in my heart *SPOILER ALERT* Patch was innocent. He was not the one who killed Nora's father. Thank God because I couldn't imagine how Nora could have ever moved passed that no matter how amazing and how gorgeous Patch is. I also liked Scott. I didn't like him much in the beginning nor did I trust him, but I think that is what the author intended and in the end it was a pleasant surprise to find out that I actually liked him. Even more surprised to see he had to go, however, I have high hopes that he returns in the next installment. I still hate Marcie. I mean hate her with a fiery passion. The scene at the pool hall when she put her arms around Patch I was getting so mad that Nora didn't do anything to the point where I was actually talking to the book. Crazy? Maybe. Though, I'm curious to see her role in the next book especially now that Nora knows the truth.  

My favorite part was when Nora finally discovered the truth by touching Rixon's scars and he said something along the lines of, well this is awkward. I actually couldn't stop laughing. I thought that was pretty funny.

What I didn't like was how the book ended right when it started getting good. The last 100 pages were my favorite and I really started getting into it when it abruptly ended. I understand there is a third book coming out but why leave the second so up in the air? The other thing that I didn't like was Nora's determination to avoid Patch. I understand she had a lot going on and she was confused, but he was trying to explain everything to her and she just pushed him away. All I kept thinking was if she stopped being so stubborn and just talked to him she could have avoided so much then again there wouldn't have been a book either, so I get it.

I prefer HUSH HUSH to CRESCENDO, but it is very rare that I prefer the second book in a series over the first. However, I almost always enjoy the third the best so I have very high expectations and am now patiently awaiting the release of SILENCE.
